Shanghai International Arts Festival – Where Art Comes Alive

Shanghai is a destination that transcends the essence of art. With a history so rich in culture and tradition, the creations from this country have an exquisite aura behind it. Every year the city of Shanghai hosts the Shanghai International Arts Festival (SIAF); the only festival that is recognised at the state level and organised by the Shanghai Municipal. The Shanghai Festival exhibits the world of art, be it Chinese or foreign in the most magical sense. Art in all its forms is portrayed at this celebration. It is a captivating event that spans across a whole month. Bringing to you the best of music, dance and drama, this is one colourful event that dazzles the entire city of Shanghai.

It all started in the year 1999 with a view of “absorbing excellent world culture, carrying forward Chinese national arts and promoting Chinese and foreign cultural ties” and to this day it lives up to this objective. The most popular artists in this industry have featured their performances at this festival. Some of them are local and others are international but all in all it is the best work that has been showcased. China in itself is home to several types of music, drama and dance. The best of the different genres is portrayed so beautifully at the dance. Some are age old and others are modern but all in all it is a fantastic place to absorb some authentic Chinese culture and tradition.

This year the festival is scheduled to take place from the 18th of October to the 18th of November and already an array of exquisite performances are lined up for the enthusiastic audience. For the past 13 years it has been an annual hit that has attracted an audience number that has reached a staggering 18 million. Even the locals in the area are fervent participants who enjoy the soaring spirit emulated by this event.

After an exciting day out at the festival, come home to the comfort of the Millennium & Copthorne Hotels China. These hotels in China are the finest of all the greater China hotels.
