Fuxing Park, a beautiful garden in Shanghai

Shanghai’s well-known Fuxing Park is a popular area of parkland which is frequented by locals as well as visitors from abroad. Located in the area previously known as the French Concession, as one might expect the garden is laid out in the French style. This expansive area of parkland features fountains, a central lake, flowerbeds and attractive pavilions. It was originally called Gu’s Park, and at the time of the French Occupation the venue was converted into a military camp. After this during the time of Japanese control, the location was dubbed ‘Daxing Park’. In the middle of the 20th century the native Chinese reassumed control of the area and gave it its present name.

This lovely park has been acclaimed as one of Shanghai’s most picturesque sights, with its handsome villas and verdant sycamore trees. In the early hours of the morning many local citizens converge on the site, including people of all ages playing cards, many chess enthusiasts, aficionados of mah-jong and tai chi practitioners both solitary and group-oriented. You will also see men in Mao suits taking a leisurely stroll with their caged pet birds and elderly pajama-clad ladies raising their voices in the tunes of Chinese opera. Naturally this makes this scenic garden a great location for people watching or simply taking a breather from your exploration of the city.

Resembling a classy garden in Paris this park is always a delight to spend time at with its shady walks, rose garden and kids’ playground with bumper cars and a carousel. As one of Shanghai’s most frequented leisure gardens, the visitor will also find numerous nightclubs and restaurants in the environs of the park. Near the northern entrance of the venue the visitor will see statues of Karl Marx and his collaborator Friedrich Engels; Chinese enthusiasts of ballroom dancing practice their art in front of these figures!

Shanghai as a modern city offers many attractions for the visitor, with a plethora of dining options, a myriad of shopping opportunities, cultural attractions and exciting nightlife. No traveller to this Chinese metropolis will return disappointed with all of these leisure options available for the visitor.

The well-informed visitor desiring a luxury hotel Shanghai will find an excellent choice in The Langham Xintiandi Shanghai. This outstanding Shanghai 5 star hotel offers exemplary accommodations and service.
