Jinzhen Octagonal Pavilion – A Peaceful Refuge

The Yunnan province has for centuries welcomed curious travellers who have wanted to explore the beautiful Jinzhen Octagonal Pavilion. It was formerly a Buddhist temple that stood on the Jinzhen Hill in Yunnan. The people of Xishuangbanna are proud of this architectural masterpiece. It was built in 1701 under the rule of the Qing Dynasty. A Buddhist sect known as Hinayana ran the temple but the site was destroyed. The amazing feature of the building is that it is built from brick and wood. The shape of it is like a plane and there are multi angular walls that make up the body of the structure.

The walls have been smoothed and polished to perfection; they are covered in light crimson clay and adorned with fragments of coloured glass and shimmery flower patters. There are also figures of animals made from gold and silver powder. The roof is spectacular; it resembles the famous pagodas of China. It is a cone shape roof that is decorated with copper bells and glass. Historically Jinzhen has been recognized as the birthplace of Sakyamuni a major figure of Buddhist history. The structure of the temple is meant to represent Sakyamuni’s golden cap. Many faithful followers of Buddhism have sought out this place. Even at present Buddhist devotees come to the temple to pay homage to Buddha.

There is one major religious event that takes place in Jinzhen on the 15th and 30th of every month. All the Buddhist monks in the area gather here to listen to the chief priest deliver a sermon. If you plan a visit to China then you should make some time in your schedule to visit Xishuangbanna in the Yunnan province. The province shares borders with Burma, Laos and Myanmar so it is easy for you to explore the adjoining countries.

When making arrangements for your accommodation its best to stay in a hotel in Yunnan. There are several properties to choose from, but staying close to the city is the best option. One hotel Yunnan that can be recommended is Anantara Xishuangbanna Resort & Spa; they offer luxurious rooms, modern amenities and a chance to savour some of the best Chinese cuisine.
