Disneyland – Coming Soon to Shanghai

If things go as planned the sixth Disney Resort will open in Shanghai sometime around December 2015. Construction on the second Chinese Disneyland began in April 2011 in Chuansha New Town of the city’s Pudong New Area. The first phase of the Disney Resort here will consist of a Magic Kingdom, a Shanghai Disneyland Park, a lake, an entertainment zone and other facilities. Subsequent phases will add two other theme parks with the entire development spanning nearly one thousand acres. When completed the park will be almost thrice the size of the Disneyland in Hong Kong and will feature characters and themes that reflect its Chinese settings.

One major feature of this Disneyland is the Enchanted Storybook Castle that will be located at the centre of the park. It will be the largest among Disney castles and will be a venue for a variety of performances. Unlike other castles which house only one Disney Princess the Enchanted Storybook Castle will feature all Disney Princesses. One can choose to walk around the castle or take a cruise. Other areas that will be constructed include Mickey Avenue, which is dedicated to Mickey Mouse and Old Shanghai, which delves into the city’s past.

Of course one need not wait until 2015 to visit the city which already has quite a few theme parks. Shanghai Happy Valley is currently the largest theme park in here boasting an area of just over two hundred acres. The park is divided into seven themed regions – Typhoon Bay, Shangri-La Woods, Ant Kingdom, Gold Mine Town, Happy Times and Sunshine Beach. Other interesting places to visit include Shanghai Circus World, Jinjiang Amusement Park and Changfeng Ocean World.

It is currently one of the most popular tourist destinations within China, charming visitors with a combination of historical, cultural and modern attractions. The city has an excellent transport system that allows even first time visitors to navigate the city with relative ease. It also helps to have lodgings in a central area. Tourists tired of hotels and are on the lookout for alternative accommodation Shanghai can try Ascott Huai Hai Road Shanghai.
